Welcome Back
We would like to welcome you all to Year 6 and can't wait to start another exciting term with you. Each term, you will receive information about all the wonderful things your child will be learning so that when you ask your child the age-old question โ 'What did you do in school today?' โ you will already know the answer! We have such an exciting curriculum planned and we can't wait to get started.
History
World War Two
This term in history, we will be learning about the fascinating topic of World War Two! As the topic is so vast, we will be focusing on a few key events:
- What was the greatest triumph? Dunkirk or the Battle of Britain?
- What was life like on the home front?
- Did everyone have a vital role?
- What happened in the Blitz and how did that affect children?

Film music
This term in Music, our project will be exploring film music. We will learn how different styles of music contribute to the feeling of a film. They will go on to create their own score and perform it as part of a group composition.

This term in D&T we will be learning how to use seasonality to design and make a bread-based product for a consumer.

Brave Colour
In this pathway we will explore colour in a very personal and intuitive way. Taking inspiration from artists like Peter Blake, Kandinsky, Paul Klee and David Hockney, we will create a landscape that explores the use of rich colour.

Geography
What does future Bideford look like?
This term in Geography, we will be looking at how Bideford is changing and how it could be better. We will be studying local businesses and collecting data on occupancy rates. Map work will play a large part as will use of primary research and fieldwork. Towards the end we will be making proposals on how we can improve the town and its economy.

Christianity
In RE, pupils will explore why Christians believe that Jesus was the Messiah. Children will learn how incarnation fits within the big story of the Bible.

Living things and their habitats
Pupils will explore the wonders of the natural world. They will describe how living things are classified into broad groups according to common observable characteristics and based on similarities and differences, and give reasons for classifying plants and animals based on specific characteristics.

This term in PE, we will be covering the following sports:
- Dance โ develop control and rhythm, choreograph sequences using creative techniques and give constructive feedback to peers
- Netball โ refining invasion skills, including attacking and defending
Computing
This term in computing we will be:
- Learning how to use the Python coding language to code characters
- Debugging errors and using basic functions such as while true loops

Homework
To support your child with their learning in Year 6, they will be set MyMaths homework weekly. They will also need to complete at least 10 minutes of TTRS.
In addition to this, they are expected to read at home each day for at least 10 minutes either independently or with an adult.
